| | | |  Preparing for the new project january 2011 The project NORDIC IMMIGRANT WOMEN 2010-2014 will, through a Nordic interdisciplinary collaboration between art (a Nordic group of ten artists) and science (KUN), develop new insights and knowledge about the integration of immigrant women who settle in rural areas through marriage with Nordic men. The project will consist of a workshop for artists, scientists and the target audience – and make an exhibition that highlights and investigates art's ability to provide alternative perspectives on social and cultural challenges. The exhibition will provide a broad picture and be used to generate discussion and ask questions about immigrant women.
Goals for the scientific work (KUN) - The project will through scientific analysis of statistical material, interaction with the visual arts, in-depth interviews and experiences - to generate new knowledge and understanding of methods for inclusion and integration of women settling in rural areas through migration marriage. The project consists of equal modules: 1. Exhibition: Ten Nordic artists from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, in cooperation with each other, immigrant women and a competence for integration will produce an exhibition based on the workshop and a seminar. Exhibition starts in Iceland and will displayed in four Nordic countries. 2. Local site-specific art projects under the direction of a selected artist in each location. These project remains on interdisciplinary cooperation between immigrant women's, artistic, municipality's academic staff and the community at large. The site-specific productions will be an addition to the traveling exhibition. 3. A local analysis will consist of the collection of statistics around population growth and immigration and in-depth interviews of target audience, selected citizens and municipal employees with partial responsibility for the inclusion of new residents. Processing and development of the material will be under the joint workshop on the Island. 4. Interdisciplinary Seminar, where immigrant women, artists and experts in contemporary art field, researchers and experts in integration, participating together to present different approaches to integration and contemporary art.
